June 2023

Hi everyone,

It’s now almost halfway through 2023, and ample time to share some of the creative ventures of this past half year.

In case you missed the premiere performances of Whispers, a new piece for string quartet I wrote for Chamber Music Adelaide and MOD.’s Invisibility commissions, there’s now a recording available, performed by violinists Lachlan Bramble and Emma Perkins, violist Martin Alexander and cellist Sharon Grigoryan.

Farewell 2021, Welcome 2022

Hi everyone,

It’s likely cliché at this point, but what a year 2021 was.

For myself, 2020 seems like a warmup to this past 12 months. Whereas that year’s university casual teaching transitioned into an online space, 2021 began with a cessation of that work due to COVID-influence budget cuts, placing me in the same precarity as other performing arts colleagues had already been experiencing...

Land Arts in the Limestone Coast (Part 2): November Retreat

This is the second post in the Land Arts in the Limestone Coast series, centred on the 10-day November retreat in the Limestone Coast that I and other artists from around Australia and abroad took part in.

Following my residency, which I wrote about in the previous post, I returned to the South East between 1 to 11 November to take part in the Land Arts Retreat. The brainchild of Professor Ross Gibson…

Zero Feet Away Reflection

How old are you?

How did you get here?

If you could be a fictional character, what fictional character would you choose to be?

What you’re about to read is intentionally queer. Queer in the sense of diverse sex, gender and sexuality, but also queer in the older sense of strange or weird.

Earlier this year, I’d looked to do a review of a show called Zero Feet Away, a queer theatre piece which I’d been connected with as both a workshop participant and audience member since some its earlier stages in 2014 through to the present day. Alas, time got away from me as I continued a PhD and travelled extensively in North America, and I never got around to actually writing the darn thing…

Bye Old Year, Happy New Year! (2017/2018)

Hi everyone!

A few things:

First, I wanted to wish you all a joyous and invigorating New Year for 2018.

2017 was one of my busiest years to date, and after failing to finish my initial update of the year, I feel it’d be nice to capture that in a more general review.

All the while continuing with my PhD studies, in January and February, I collaborated with choreographer Lisa Lonero Allen and dancers Ruby Dolman and Courteney Cox in Dances for a Small Stage 2017, as part of the Adelaide Fringe…

2017 American Ascent Trip

This is the first in a series of updates from my travels in the US and Canada. It's now been a month since I've left Australian shores, and I’m about to depart for my next leg in Denali National Park in Alaska. There’s been a whirlwind of activity that’s kept me on my toes, and I’ll try my best to sum up what’s been going on…

Post from 2016

I’d hoped to have put out this update of my activities over the last months of 2016 in December, but some challenging circumstances arose that meant I had to take some time for self-care and sensitive responses. So, finally, here ‘tis!

Simply put, it’s been a whirlwind few months: In early September, I travelled to Bendigo to catch BIFEM…
