Tutorial for the Handbook for Acoustic Ecology (PACIFIC COURSE)
Running from October 25, 2026 - January 24, 2027.
10am - 12pm ACDT on Zoom
with course instructor Jesse Budel
This course is a Pacific time-zone delivery of Barry Truax’s Tutorial for the Handbook for Acoustic Ecology, presented as a special topics webinar series in late 2026/early 2027.
It includes 12 weekly seminars beginning in October 2026, totaling 30 hours of instruction, and follows a structured progression through 20 modules. The course covers both theoretical and applied aspects of acoustics and electroacoustic sound production, including psychoacoustics, environmental and speech acoustics, audiology, soundscape studies, and advanced topics such as convolution, microsound, and voice-based composition.
Participants in the Asia-Pacific region will engage with the same materials and online pedagogy developed by Barry Truax, with sessions including foundational theory, technical insights, and creative applications. The course draws primarily on the Handbook for Acoustic Ecology and its accompanying tutorial, with access to additional materials provided.
