Featherstone Place

an urban sound installation (2018)

Featherstone Place is a 24/7 urban sound installation that responsds to the changing daily soundscape of Featherstone Place in Adelaide’s CBD.

Comprised of field recordings of Featherstone Place and samples of Zephyr Quartet performing in situ, the quietude of night gives way to the daily hustle and bustle, with the dawn and dusk chorus of local birdlife, fluctuation in foot traffic, vehicle movement and air conditioner drones.

Additionally, the sounds are effects-processed in response to live meteorological data sourced from the Bureau of Meteorology (including information such as temperature, air pressure, humidity and wind direction), allowing the work to be influenced by local ecological dynamics.

More on its sister installation, A Day In An Alleyway, can be found here.
